On-Demand Presentation Demystifies use of FEA for Motor and Generator Design

Available in English and French

A new web-based technical presentation from Technical Services helps designers of electric motors and generators use finite element analysis (FEA) techniques to accelerate product development and improve design accuracy. The presentation will also be of interest to and electromechanical analysts, as well as engineers who are currently using analytical design packages for rotating machines. First shown live to a pre-registered audience as a webinar, the 47-minute audio/visual presentation is now available – in English and French – for on-demand playback via ’s dedicated design software website: http://www.motor-design-software.com.

Research programme targets next-generation electric motors for luxury automobiles

Next-generation electric motors for low carbon emission vehicles are the target of a new collaborative research programme to be led by Technical Services. The project, ‘Rapid Design and Development of a Traction ’, will also involve partners Jaguar Land-Rover and engineering consultancy UK, and is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

As part of its work in the project, will develop multi-physics software and capture the other partners’ methodology in order to design, simulate and analyse the performance of high , lightweight electric traction motors that eliminate the use of expensive magnetic materials. Using these new software tools JLR and will design and manufacture a prototype that addresses the requirements of luxury vehicles.
